Why were there no deaths in such a big earthquake?
There were no deaths because it was sooo strong that people felt it so they got out quick enough to avoid themselves from being hit by things and to avoid death so that is why there were no deaths in the christchurch earthquake.
Backround information:
The major and powerful 7.1 earthquake smashed buildings, cracked roads and twisted railway tracks around Christchurch. At least 500 buildings, including 90 properties in Christchurch have been destroyed in the earthquake that happened at 4:35 a.m. on Saturday in the region of Canterbury. The earthquake shattered glass and made chimneys and walls of older buildings crumble onto the ground. The prime minister said it was a miracle no one was killed.Roger Bates, whose dairy farm at Darfield was close to the earthquake's epicenter he said the new fault line had ripped up the surface across his land. The earthquake is about the same size as the Haiti earthquake but the damage is not as bad because the houses in haiti were badly built.
